Media and Information Literacy

My first exposure to media was when my family lived at my grandma and grandfather's house. They preferred listening to radios rather than watching television back then. When I was a bit older, I learned how to count, distinguish colors, read, and write letters by watching Jollibee's educational DVD for kids. My grandmother was an elementary school teacher at the time, and she used to type a lot using a typewriter for lesson plans and school reports. She once taught us how to use it properly and how it works. Before I got my first phone, my father encouraged us to use telephones to call my mother at work and my grandmother on occasion. Because phones are expensive, my aunt and uncle only allowed us to use computer for academics, and when we had friends who wanted to play on it, they monitored us while we were using it because they wanted to control my screentime.
